Annual Function 2011

Welcome to the Annual Function of Bodhisukha School 2010-2011. Bodhisukha School, (English Medium, CBSE Curriculum), a top class educational institution in the locality, was founded in the year 2001 by RR Young Buddhist Student Literacy Mission with three years consecutive kind donations from Buddhist Relief Mission of USA.

Since the beginning, the prime-motto of the school is to maintain the overall development of each student, not only in the field of academic education but also in the field of all sorts of co-curricular activities such as Karate training, yoga classes, outdoor and indoor games etc free of cost.

Our institution is for all the willing students irrespective of cast, creed & religion. To encourage and to bring the students of such families which are leading their lives from hand to mouth, we use to give yearly scholarships to the meritorious students of poor families by waiving their monthly tuition fees.

Celebrations & Activities of the school

DSCF1669webEvery year we use to observe many programs which have deep impact on our socio-cultural lives. Moreover, every year in the month of July, the School organized tree plantation program to celebrate the “VAMMAHOTSAV”. Each and every student and the near neighbours are regularly guided by us to be aware of the importance of trees to control the alarming affects of “Global Warming”. We also arrange literacy campaign around the locality of the school. Apart from these, we give importance to hygiene. In pursuant to the motto the school organized Health Check-Up camp for the students by well experienced doctors free of charge. For this purpose our slogan is “HEALTH IS WEALTH”.

In addition to these, the school also use to observe 15th August, the independence day of India, Children Day, Teachers Day, Republic Day, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s birth day, Rabindranath Tagore’s Birth day etc.

4th April is the precious foundation day of Bodhisukha School. Every year we celebrate this day with many programs. 2010-2011 academic session is really special for us, for this year we have fortunately got the kind presence of the Kawasakis, the respected founder-donors of the school. It is our privilege that the school performs its Annual Function program in front of them. This Annual Function also marks 150th Anniversary of eminent poet and nobel laureate Ranindranath Tagore. On occasion the students paid their attribution by playing two dance dramas written the great poet – ABHISHAR and CHANDALIKA.

ABHISHAR

This dance drama shows the power of meditation. Basabdatta was a professional Court dancer who was very much haughty of her beauty, and she wanted to move a young monk known as Upagutta in Buddhist literature. But, since Venerable Upagutta already attained Arahantahood, he didn’t move by anything.

When the citizens threw the woman out of the city as she was suffering from leprosy, the monk, Upagutta nursed her by applying Sandal on her body and chanting hymns. The moral of the poem is sages/monks should come forward to serve the people when they are suffering.

CHANDALIKA

This dance drama is based on the bad impact of the cruel castism. A girl, Prokriti, daughter of a Chandalika caste, was considered as a lower caste. She could not buy bangles or curd from the vendor along with others. All the time whenever she wanted to mingle with others she was used to be rebuked badly and harassed. While doing domestic work at home, a group of Buddhist monks came that way and they requested her to give water. Surprised by their request, Prokriti told them she is an untouchable. But the monks replied that everyone in this world is equal. We don’t have any discrimination. One becomes noble by his/her action, not by birth.

Among the lists of recitations there was a poem “Where the mind is without Fear” written by the same great poet. This poem tells us the importance of dignity and the real meaning of true liberty. It was recited by one of the students of Class X of our school, Mst. Kya Ja Ree, and he was greatly praised by our honorable guests for his style of presentation and pronunciation. We would like to share the poem to all.

“WHERE THE MINDIS WITHOUT FEAR”

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high,  where knowledge is free, where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; where words come out from the depth of truth; where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; where the clear stream of reason has not lost is way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; where the mind is led forward by thee Into ever-widening thought and action                                                         Into that heaven of freedom, my father let my country be awake.

Then there was prize distribution ceremony. We use to give away all the prizes of different activities throughout the year on the day of Annual Function. There were many categories – sports, House competitions, academic activities etc. It is sure these prizes will encourage our students to improve more and more in every segment of their lives. These are the things the school wants. The prizes were distributed by our respected guests. At the end the Bodhisukha school would like to share a great news that the first batch of the students from our school appeared in the Board Exam (Class X) 2010-2011 and all of them passed with First Division. The school is very much proud of them and we are confident that by providing quality teaching the School must produce good and fruitful result in the forth coming year, too.

With great thanks,

S.S. Das, Asst. Teacher.
